Alternative Music - Jake Brett

Written By Isaac Ouro-Gnao

Jake Brett is a Watford based musician and producer, with a talent for making the experimental easy on the ear.

His debut single Pulse, released last month, is the beginning of an exciting mixtape titled The Boleen Modifier.

The Watford based artist experiments with layers of sounds to create something quite unique.

Jake Brett is a metaphorical storyteller. Poetic in his lyrics as much as his sound. It's hard to draw a comparison, but American musician Son Lux comes to mind.

Pulse, self-described as synth pop, is a well balanced track full of wonderful musical eclecticism; riddled with metaphors that really make you think.

"The closet a man can get to a god is, When a snare drum smashes through to heaven, And you see no gods just your reflection," stands poignant and makes you very self-aware.

The track, co-produced by Charles Dixon, tells its own story.

From synthetic heavy parts to the lightened soothing trumpets and piano keys at the ending, making for an interesting and exciting single.
