Hawk House pertains to the experimental name. The talented trio from London will leave your mind creatively exhausted with intricate layers of sounds on the A Handshake To The Brain EP. Emcee Eman, his older brother Sam, and melodic vocalist Demae have found an incredible eclectic blend with this one. Demae’s soulful tones lull us into the opening of The Nervous System, to the sounds of what I can only describe as gnawing on rubber. Coupled with the humorous X-factor-esque voice over – “Living in a concrete jungle, this is the backdrop to our story today. Our protagonist Marvin battling his conscious under constant pressure from the bredrens” – there’s already a sense of new and uncertainty. The gritty grime rhymes and thought-provoking lyrics make this an interesting narrative. The storytellers take us on an elaborate trip, describing the chaotic life of a peer pressured young protagonist. With distorted vocals, ticking sonic sounds, and a head bopping beat, The Nervous System is truly a breathtaking and stimulating track.
