Alternative Music – Emmavie
Written By Isaac Ouro-Gnao
Emmavie Mbongo, known as just Emmavie, embodies what it means to be a songstress. It may be rare for artists to be so hands on at every stage of a song, but Emmavie’s mastery makes her music authentic – from writing her own music, to producing it, and performing strong vocals. The 90s RnB and Soul inspired artist, from London, experiments with great sounds, Floetry-esque lyrics, and expressive, seducing harmonies. I’ve chosen to feature Emmavie, not only because of her growing fame – earning continuous plays and acclaims on music radios and the BBC – but because of her unique alternative sound. The Neo-Soul songstress has created unique tracks such as I Hope We Never Break Up and High Off This, but her most recent song from her forthcoming Honeymoon project is a standout. Premiered by Complex, Love Drunk “is a super fun celebration of infatuation lovingly crafted from start to finish.” She is able to manipulate music as a producer, telling a story before poetic lyrics are added. And when it all comes together we are left feeling euphoric. As a cherry on top, here’s a collaboration track with IAMNOBODI – a melodic feel-good song about infatuated love – which I can’t stop replaying and listening to.
