A group of young people from Watford have curated an exhibition for the Space2 Gallery at Watford Museum.

Members of the group, called the Young Curators, aged between 13 and 19, decided on the theme – Urban: Life in Watford, and selected the artworks which are now on display until 21st February. The group, which is a new aspect to the museum programme, aims to get young people engaged with their local museum and gain work experience in a creative setting.

Speaking at the launch event and private view, Mitesh Mistry – one of the young curators, said: “Being in the Young Curator’s scheme is a great experience. Not only have I learnt new skills, such as aesthetic look and time management, but I have also met new friends in the process. From a shy group, we have all developed in character. Participating in discussions about the project was a new experience and we all worked well together creating a fine tribute to urban Watford."

Pieces on display include market street scenes painted by Gordon Hales and striking black and white photography of the old gasworks by Dave Parker. Themes explored include industry, architecture and lifestyle in Watford.

The Urban; Life in Watford exhibition is open until 21st February from Thursday to Saturday, 10.00am - 5.00pm and for more information about the display, please visit Space2
