Smiling faces, camaraderie, colour and hard fought competition were the hallmarks of the 2014 Herts Youth Games that took place on Sunday 6 July.
Around 1,000 young athletes, ranging from 8 to 18, represented their districts in eleven different sports at the Wodson Park Sports Centre at Ware, including athletics, badminton, boccia, fencing, football, hockey and table tennis.
Watford Borough Council organised teams had a extremely successful day resulting in five top three results in badminton, fencing, girls football and boys and girls hockey.
Teams from each of the county’s districts were expertly managed on the day by a Sports Development Officer from their local council.
Event organiser Tony Marmo was delighted with the games success, saying “The Herts Youth Games aims to attract semi-sporty young people into competitive sport so it is fantastic to see so many people having a great time.
“The atmosphere has been amazing with a great team spirit of enthusiasm and fair play, with lots of support from around 1,500 spectators made up of families and friends. I know that many of those taking part will be inspired to continue to develop their skills and compete at a higher level.”
Congratulations must go to all the competitors and to the vast team of organisers and volunteers that made the event such a success!
The Herts Youth Games Association organises this event annually with support from the Herts Sports Partnership. It showcases all that is good about youngsters participating and competing in sport. For more information about the Herts Youth Games visit: www.hertsyouthgames.co.uk
