A £10,985 grant has enabled Watford Women’s Centre to transform their garden into a more beautiful and accessible space.

The funding, from Watford Borough Council's Neighbourhood Grant, will support the charity in continuing their work to provide domestic abuse support, counselling, education and training courses to residents in Hertfordshire.

The garden restoration project has improved accessibility by levelling out the area, adding steps, a pathway and a moveable ramp for visitors with disabilities or mobility issues. The garden space will be enjoyed by everyone visiting the centre and will be used for sessions and activities to enhance the charity’s work.

Peter Taylor, Elected Mayor of Watford, said: “I am delighted to see the transformation of the Watford Women’s Centre garden, made possible thanks to our Neighbourhood Grant. This welcoming space will provide a place for peaceful reflection and help with people’s wellbeing. Watford Women’s Centre does incredible work in our community, offering essential support and opportunities for women. I look forward to seeing this garden flourish as a welcoming and calm space for all who visit the centre.”

Lucy Martin, Watford Women’s Centre CEO, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been given the opportunity to transform our outside space. Only a year ago, the site was an unwelcoming space, overgrown with weeds and brambles and now it’s a wonderful garden for everyone at the centre to enjoy. We would not have been able to achieve this without Watford Borough Council’s generous support.”
