For more than 150 years, the Salvation Army, a worldwide Christian church and registered charity, has been changing lives. This year they are in urgent need of your help.
The Salvation Army is urging Watford residents to contribute to its Christmas Present Appeal, as the number of requests for assistance from low-income families has increased this year.
Last year, Watford Salvation Army helped 194 children who would have otherwise gone without a gift on Christmas Day. This year they have been asked to help over 300 children and they need your help to do so.
Mark Scoulding, Commanding Officer said: “The community’s generosity last year made a world of difference…We’re urgently appealing to everyone - individuals, businesses and organisations - to help us meet this incredible demand. Christmas is a time for joy and giving, and no child should feel forgotten.
“With the support of our community, we can ensure that everyone of these 380 children wakes up to something special on Christmas morning. Donations are needed right away – we distribute gifts as early as we can so that families don’t worry about Christmas and get themselves into debt.”
Additionally, the church will be accepting donations of new, unopened toys until Saturday, December 14. Collecting trollies are open 24/7 in Asda Watford.
Donations can look like anything from dolls, soft toys, and art supplies for younger kinds and games, books, and clothing for older children. Whatever you give will be deeply appreciated.
