Sign up to take part in St Albans Half Marathon on Sunday 14th June and have fun running or walking the route to raise funds for two local charities or for a charity of your choice.
The St Albans Half Marathon had a record breaking year in 2014 bringing the 6,000 participants together to raise £37,600 for local charities and organisations. This was in addition to the money raised by participants through sponsorship. The annual event is organised on behalf of St Albans City and District Council by its leisure contractor 1Life.
To sign up for this year’s event go to St Albans Half Marathon and entries close on Tuesday 9 June 2015 at 12 noon.
Councillor Annie Brewster, Portfolio Holder for Sport, Leisure and Heritage for St Albans City and District Council, said: “St Albans Half Marathon, now in its 34th year, is one of the City’s blue ribbon events. Everyone can take part whether you walk or run and cover 1.5 or the full 13.1 miles half marathon distance. Whilst you are keeping fit, you will be raising vital money for local charities and voluntary organisations.
“Funds raised from the event will help transform the old Town Hall into a new museum and art gallery right at the heart of our community and also fund some of the work of Headway Hertfordshire, which supports people affected by brain injuries. Approximately 6,000 people suffer with brain injuries each year in Hertfordshire alone - that’s the same number of people that entered the St Albans Half Marathon in 2014.”
Headway Hertfordshire’s Chief Executive Karyn Jones said: “The money raised from this event will go towards continuing the high level of services we offer to Hertfordshire, including rehabilitation, counselling and providing support work for clients and carers. Our mission is to ensure that every individual affected by brain injury in Hertfordshire has equal access to information, services and support so that they can lead the best lives they can.”
renaissance: St Albans is a campaign run by St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust working with St Albans City and District Council and University of Hertfordshire Galleries to deliver a new museum and art gallery.
Trust Chairman Mike Gray said: “The new museum and gallery will become the centre of cultural life in the City. A rolling programme of innovative and engaging exhibitions will be curated for all ages to enjoy and to promote lifelong learning. History and art displays will complement each other, provoking interest, thought and debate.”
