Small acts of kindness make all the difference

Hertfordshire County Council's Locality Budget Scheme has extended a helping hand to local social enterprise Small Acts of Kindness as well as North Bushey Community Fair.

Cllr Caroline Clapper (Watling Division) has allocated £100 from her Locality Budget to Small Acts of Kindness CIC which is social enterprise sourcing and distributing gifts to older, often lonely and socially isolated people in Hertfordshire.

“These small gestures increase the sense of wellbeing for the recipient and can help towards reducing that feeling of loneliness and isolation which has a positive impact on physical and mental well-being" said Cllr Clapper. “I’m delighted to be able to support this worthwhile cause.”

Small Acts of Kindness source and deliver `Warm in Winter’ gift bags during the cold winter months which can be vital as many older people struggle to keep warm and balance the costs of heating their homes and eating. The bags include a blanket, thermal hat, gloves, and socks as well as supplies for hot drinks.

In addition, Cllr Jane West (Bushey North) has allocated £400 from her Locality Budget to Holy Trinity Church for the North Bushey Community Fair. The funding will go towards providing activities for families at the fair.

Cllr West said: "The Bushey North Summer Fair has proved to be a great success since being launched in 2015. It is a great day out for all the family and I hope that the £400 I have donated from my locality budget will help make this summer’s event even bigger and better than previous years."

The Locality Budget Scheme has funded thousands of community projects since it was launched in 2009, supporting local good causes and making a real difference to people across Hertfordshire.

County councillors work closely with local communities to identify local issues. For this year, each of the 77 members of Hertfordshire County Council has £5,000 to spend on worthwhile projects in their area and they welcome applications from across the local community.
