Peace Hospice Care Charity Shop in St Albans Closed Due to Flooding

Peace Hospice Care is urging St Albans residents not to bring donations to their St Albans shop (85 St Peter's Street, St Albans AL1 3EG) which is temporarily closed.

The shop was flooded on the afternoon of Tuesday 29th May following heavy rain and will be closed until further notice. Thames Water attended on the Tuesday to drain out the basement which was affected.  Work is progressing on drying out the basement and making plans for the necessary repairs.  The shop is unable to accept any donations while it is closed.

Speaking about the incident, Ropinder Gill, Director of Income Generation at Peace Hospice Care, said: “It really is heart breaking to see the damage that has been caused.  The stock stored in our basement, which has been so generously donated, has been completely destroyed.  Our thanks to Thames Water who came out very quickly to pump out the basement.”

Local St Albans residents are asked to keep any donations until the shop is ready to re-open.  Peace Hospice Care will keep supporters updated on the shop, when it can accept donations and plans for re-opening via its website, Facebook and Twitter pages.  The charity is still continuing to accept donations at its other shops – a full listing of shops can be found on Peace Hospice Care’s website: www.peacehospciecare.org.uk
