Clarendon Road in Watford will be closed for four nights from 11 April to allow for investigations into the cause of depressions which have appeared recently in the road and pavement.
Specialist engineers will carry out exploratory drilling to establish the cause of defects in the road, such as a collapsed manhole in February, under a full road closure from 8.30pm to 5.30am. A signed alternative route will be in place.
Rob Smith, Deputy Director of Environment, said: “We understand that this is a major and busy route in Watford, which is why we will carry out these investigations overnight. It’s important we establish the cause of these highway defects and repair them to keep traffic flowing and road users safe."
“On behalf of everyone involved I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while the work is in progress. We will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum.”
The work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances can arise and work may continue outside the advertised hours.
Any changes to the proposed start date, duration or working hours will be announced on the information boards on site and will be available at Hertfordshire Roadworks.
