On what was meant to be the day that local runner Rafferty Gunn completed the London Marathon for the first time, this Sunday (26th April) a 26.2-mile race will still be ran.
Whilst competing only with himself, the biggest challenge will be his Crocs!
Hosting the event at home, Gunn will set out at 9am, slipping on his Crocs and running 7033 lengths of his 6-metre-long back garden.
Aiming to raise £5,000 for the NHS, there is a heart-warming reason as to why he’ll be wearing rubber.
“Our wonderful NHS and medical workers are completing 12.5+ hour shifts in Crocs to protect us against the coronavirus. So, it only seems fair to wear a pair of Crocs during my marathon challenge,” Mr Gunn said.
Having witnessed first-hand the extraordinary work going on from the NHS front line, the Hertfordshire resident explained:
“My sister is a midwife and was recently hospitalised with severe dehydration and a kidney infection due to the complications of wearing PPE for long shifts in very challenging conditions.”
