A massive game awaits Xisco Muñoz and Watford on Saturday afternoon. A win over Millwall at Vicarage Road would seal promotion and an immediate return to the Premier League. Muñoz spoke to the press ahead of this crucial game, discussing mentality, ambition and focus.
Following Watford's 1-0 win over league leaders Norwich City at Carrow Road defender William Troost-Ekong praised the quality of the squad. "We had so many players coming back who added to the team and the good thing about our squad is that anyone who steps in makes the team better."
The return of Kiko Femenia from suspension will be a major boost to Muñoz for the game, but there was little word on injury news. Nathaniel Chalobah returned from injury on Tuesday night, and midfielder Tom Cleverley made his first start since early March, with defender Adam Masina also recovering from an injury and illness.
There's excitement around the club at the moment, but Muñoz would prefer to take the games one at a time. "If we don't have our focus in the game (against Millwall), we start to lose 1-0. It's the most important that we prepare our focus, the focus is on the game and the focus is important to give our best performance, and come into the game with 100% in all situations, in intensity, in mentality, in ambition to win this very important game. The focus is the game, not what happens in any other game. The objective is Millwall, give a very good performance, continue with our style, try to give important things with the ball and try to play always in attack."
The fans have been vital to the confidence of the team despite being unable to attend matches. Whilst Muñoz isn't ready to think about promotion, he wants the positivity of the fans to help in this crucial game. When asked by Vibe 107.6 about whether he feels the support on social media and from home, he responded simply with "Always." Before elaborating with "I always feel this. It's an important game for everyone, everyone has full energy, very good energy and a very good mood for this game. It's important everyone gives their big support. The most important thing is to enjoy this moment, they (the fans) can't come in the stadium but why not enjoy it with family at home, enjoy this situation and give this plus for energy, because we need to feel this situation with our fans. We need to feel our fans happy with our team because our team has given all the best in the last 3, 4 months and they give full power for our fans too.
