Joining Benjy Potter on Vibe107.6 was the Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor. From home life, to Watford FC and the best biscuit, Mr Taylor began by praising the NHS during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Never before have the NHS been busier,” he said.

“It’s incredible what they’re doing locally and across the country. Loads of people are volunteering to support them and the businesses in Watford have been phenomenal in supplying the hospital with whatever they need.”

A pillar of the community, Watford Football Club have been fantastic when helping the town in dealing with the coronavirus. Explaining how the Hornets have helped, Mayor Taylor said:

“Watford FC have been amazing. Graham Taylor’s philosophy about being a community football club is really import. They have really risen to the challenge over the last few weeks and they’ve been doing so much.

“I know the staff at Watford General are using Vicarage Road. The club have been amazing over the last few weeks and huge credit to everyone who’s been involved with that.”

The original plan to postpone the green bin service in Watford cancelled, the Elected Mayor said:

“There has been a good U-turn on green bins. The team at Veolia have been able to respond incredibly well and we have got enough drivers to continue the service and collect every bin on the days that they were scheduled.

“Huge credit to the crews. Lots has been done to keep the service going and its business as usual. I am grateful for residents who keep the bins clean and I thank our crews.”

A family man with a love of biscuits, Mayor Taylor concluded the interview on Vibe107.6 by providing listeners with a small insight into life outside of politics.

“Like lots of people, juggling family and work life is always a challenge. We’re back to home schooling after the Easter Holidays. A couple of mornings a week I will try and do my best to teach my children.

“I was a teacher in a past life, but I used to teach 16 to 18-year olds. You have a renewed appreciation for primary school teachers.

“The best biscuits for dunking used to be a bourbon, but now it has got to be a crunchie cream. It’s an important debate!”
