Transforming Watford Town Centre into a place of wonder and excitement, it was with great disappointment that the decision was made to cancel 2020’s event

On what would have been the 10th anniversary of Imagine Watford - an exciting festival featuring the highest quality outdoor arts performances from local, national and international artists - the event has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Created by the Watford Cultural Leaders Group and programmed by Watford Palace Theatre, the free festival is a great success every year.

Transforming Watford Town Centre into a place of wonder and excitement, it was with great disappointment that the decision was made to cancel 2020’s event.

In a statement this afternoon, Imagine Watford released the following statement:

“Following careful consideration, and in light of the Prime Minister’s and Public Health England advice, Watford Palace Theatre and Watford Borough Council have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Borough’s very popular, outdoor performance festival, Imagine Watford 2020.”

Speaking on behalf of Watford’s cultural leaders, the Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said:

“In Watford we are rightly proud of the range of wonderful cultural and entertainment events throughout the year. We are incredibly disappointed that Imagine Watford has had to be cancelled for 2020.

“However, we recognise that these are exceptional circumstances. We have to put the health and safety of the public, including the artists who would have been performing in this year’s festival, first. We must protect our community, our most vulnerable and the NHS above all else.”

In a tough time for everyone, one can still look forward to 2021’s party celebration in the centre of Watford next year.
