First Public Consultation Evening is held for Harperbury Free School

Harperbury Free School in Radlett has held its first public meeting evening to discuss future plans for the school.

The first of of three meetings took place on Tuesday 6th and the next two are scheduled for January 13th and January 15th. Further information can be found on the school's website and anyone in the surrounding area with an interest about the school's development is welcome to attend.

The school was set up by a group of local parents and teachers. They came together in 2010 and applied to the Department of Education to create a new local secondary under the governments Free Schools programme. Their application was submitted in January 2013, and was later given the go-ahead in May 2013.

Founder and Governor, Clive Glover, told Vibe “anyone who has an opinion can attend the meeting. We would like as many responses as possible. The school will be specialising in Business and Commerce and will be working with local businesses and charities from the start to help provide understanding of the ‘real world’ outside school".

Under current plans, the school will be built on the former Harperbury Hospital site just off Harper Lane, Radlett. However, it will open in temporary accommodation in Borehamwood in September whilst the school is being built at the Harperbury site. It is expected that it will take two years to build.

The school was set up to serve the needs of families in Radlett, London Colney, Bricket Wood, Shenley, Park Street and other surrounding localities. Preference will be given to applicants from this catchment area. Priority of places will be given to pupils on the basis of where they live as opposed to entrance exam results, faith, or gender.
