Watford Borough Council has announced a whole host of further free activities that are aimed at getting residents active.
There will be free badminton sessions at Watford YMCA in Charter House, Charter Place, from noon to 1.00pm on Saturdays during term-time. Free handball sessions will be held in the same venue from 1.00pm to 2.00pm, also on Saturdays during term-time, though you have to be 16 or older for these. All equipment will be provided for the handball and badminton sessions, and you don’t need to book in advance: just turn up.
Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “I do not want money to be a barrier to getting fit, so I am delighted that we can offer this opportunity to get up and have a go. It might just motivate more people to get up and get active.”
The council, working in partnership with Watford FC, has also arranged for some free walking football sessions to be offered to those aged 50 and over. They will be held at Watford YMCA on Wednesdays between 10am and 11am from this week. To learn more or register your interest in taking part, contact David Philp on 01923 496350 or david.philp@watfordfc.com
Plus, Vivid Beauty has organised free ‘Us Girls’ fashion workshops, held in Watford YMCA exclusively for teenage girls. As well as being taught fun dance routines, participants will learn how to become their own style expert during the 4.45pm to 6.45pm sessions every Tuesday until 21 July. Spaces are limited, so contact Vivid Beauty leader Corina Best on 07832 205 787 or corina@corinabest.com to book in advance.
The latest sessions follow on from a huge variety of free activities the council already provides, ranging from skateboarding to strolling for mums. They are aimed primarily at residents who live in Watford’s Central ward, but are open to everyone. For the full range of activities, visit their website.
