Could You Help Save A Life?

The East of England Ambulance Service is looking for people in Watford, St Albans, Rickmansworth and London Colney to become Community First Responders.

Community First Responders (CFR's) are sent to 999 emergencies, taking it in turn to be 'on call' within the community they live or work in. The role of a First Responder is to provide care until the ambulance arrives, usually only a few minutes later. Volunteers ‘on call’ carry first aid equipment and can be dispatched to immediately life-threatening emergencies at any time.

"The more members we can recruit, the more cover we can give,” said Steve Catley, the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) Community Partnership Manager. He emphasised the importance of contributing “something worthwhile” to the community, as just a few hours of volunteering could boost the success of this life-saving scheme.

A free 18-hour training course provides volunteers with vital life-saving skills that can make the difference in a life or death situation.

The service is currently looking to expand. More volunteers in existing groups of CFRs mean a higher number of hours can be given to local 999 calls. The charity work 365 days a year, 24 hours a day in a bid to prevent needless deaths where first aid can suffice.

Anyone living or working locally can get involved in different aspects of the scheme. If volunteering as a First Responder isn’t for you, EEAST is also looking for scheme co-ordinators, fundraisers and general help.

More information can be found on their website, or alternatively contact EEAST via email Herts CFR's or telephone 01767 600822.
