All aboard for Queen’s Birthday party at St Albans Abbey station

The St Albans Abbey station will host an afternoon of tea and cakes on Sunday 12th June to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The event is part of the national ‘Station to Station’ celebrations and Councillor Derrick Ashley, Hertfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, will roll up his sleeves to serve refreshments.  Tea and cake will be on sale between noon and 4.00pm will all proceeds going to the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

Derrick Ashley, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “I’m looking forward to putting on my apron to celebrate the Queen’s milestone birthday and help raise some money for a good cause.  It’s also a great opportunity to show resident s our commitment to provide efficient and sustainable travel options for our residents and businesses that reduce congestion on our busy roads."

He added, “The improved station-to-station access that Abbey Line offers, linking St Albans and Watford in just 16 minutes, is a fast and convenient alternative to a car journey that takes as long as 45 minutes end to end. Links to the city centre will soon be made easier by a new shuttle bus link which will meet each train at Abbey station, providing seamless public transport journeys.”

At the event there will be information on how the Abbey Line, which links St Albans and Watford, supports the local community, and how you can enjoy the line and the area it serves through activities such as country walks or volunteering. Representatives from the Abbey Line Community Rail Partnership, Hertfordshire County Council and the rail users group will be there to answer any questions about the line.

There will also be an opportunity to catch the train to Bricket Wood to enjoy the St Stephen Parish Council 2016 Festival. Trains run every hour and only take 8 minutes.  Access to the event is via the station approach road off Holywell Hill, opposite Verulamium Park.
